Our Reason to Be

 

We always receive what we need in life and, whether we like it or not, we are always in our true place.

 

We are all born into this plane of existence to overcome faults that have been in evidence in our former lives and to build up and to grow in a more spiritual light to a higher and grander expression of the life force. Some are given greater tasks than others because they have a great deal to overcome, and, then too, past debts must be paid in full. We decide. We are the judge and the jury, and we know when and what is needed to round out the individual character.

Some have their soul mates with them to make their life a joy, and to those who are so fortunate, no problem of life is too hard to overcome. All have mates, yes, but all do not find them in this life on the earth plane. Love must be strong, the thing that means most in life, in order for this to be so. In other words, each need must be met in turn and unless and until we are ready to receive this, our greatest gift of God, we must wait until such time as the indwelling ego recognizes this need.

We always receive what we need in life and, whether we like it or not, we are always in our true place. We mentally create our heaven and our hell and each one differs from the other so that no place on the earth or in the heavens would answer for all.  

We create and are the creators and have within our grasp the potentials of greatness that we are causing in our respective lives. We often know not of our power and strength. 

Go forth and seek that which you would have for your heaven on earth.

Fulfilling Obligations

  

Self-advancement, even of the highest spiritual level, cannot and will not come when our obligations are in any way neglected.

 

[A strong warning to a relative who had made plans to be away at a time when her presence at home was much needed.]

 

There are times, my child, that we cannot see the brook for the stones that are there, but it is still there, still running and going on to its ultimate destiny, the river and thence to the sea. I use this simile for a reason which we hope you will see and profit by. 

You know, there is none so blind as one who cannot see the things about her that she has and should cherish above all. It is a life work and until this is accomplished, one is not truly free to go about seeking for self-advancement no matter how high the motive may be.

The first and the foremost duty of everyone who has children to bring up to adulthood is to guide and to care for them and to be a continuous example for them to emulate. No one else can do this for us -- we are obligated by the laws of love to carry this through no matter how heavy the burden.  

There are times, yes, when we can, as you might say, take a breather and get away for a short time and thereby return with a different perspective. But to seek out a goal of greater self-advancement when the obligations of home are not yet met we cannot condone for everything must have a time and the time for that cannot be hurried. 

 Self-advancement, even of the highest spiritual level, cannot and will not come when our obligations are in any way neglected. In truth, it is a selfishness that is being appeased and nothing more, and true spiritual upliftment cannot come. We are only self-hypnotized by our strong desires.

We cannot emphasize this strongly enough. If you persist in carrying through this plan, we see it will further the chasm between you and your daughter and may cause a rift between you and your husband. It is not the time!! It is not the way.  

Take a vacation, yes, that is sometimes, in itself, an upliftment and a way to be appreciated, but not an expensive course (and the cost will be greater than you will care to pay) that, no matter how noble and selfless it may sound to you, is not what is represented. 

Think and then act on your own best judgment. We know you are a highly sensitive and emotional personality and one who is greatly affected by the spiritual. You are gaining, and remember -- everything good comes slowly. You have within your grasp that which you seek, but only in following your true duty. Any other path will lead only to disaster.

 

Inharmonious Reactions

 

Allergies [are caused by an] imbalance of substances within the body ...

 

There is much talk on the earth plane of life on allergies and allergic reaction to substances in the air. What it really amounts to is imbalance of substances within the body, or to phrase it another way, a lack of the proper elements to create harmony within the bloodstream.

This lack may come about in several ways. One, it may be caused by dietary errors over a period of time. Two, it may be caused by a severe illness in the person’s childhood that has brought this same condition about. Three, there may be some obstruction within the nostril or in the bronchial tubes themselves that prevents the person afflicted from getting all the oxygen he or she needs. 

The one easiest to combat, of course, is the dietary error. By using our will and mind power, we can always eliminate the non-essentials, such as chocolate, excess refined white sugar, starch, white bread and rolls, heavy cream, ice cream, et cetera from our diet. Eat the simple fruit and vegetable diet and see if that does not bring about a change in the well-being of the person involved. 

Much can and should be done about the horrible diets that are consumed today by the people on the earth plane. They are not receiving good nourishment, but are eating too many highly refined and starchy foods and are not only afflicted by so-called allergies, but by many unnecessary afflictions which they attribute erroneously to germs. 

Think before you bite into that delicious cake, pie or piece of candy. Is it worth the price you are bound to pay? Every bite, like little drops of water, finally adds up to real trouble. Try the better way of life, eating only that which the body needs for building and establishing energy and note the disappearance of all inharmonious reactions within the overburdened body or temple in which you dwell.

 

Seeing Truly

 

We pay the piper always for our lack of proper interest in spiritual values and putting material welfare in the forefront. 

 

If only we could see ourselves as we are seen by others, what a vastly different picture of self we would receive into our consciousness. The things we look upon as all-important might prove to be very trivial to the mind of another, and that which we hold in inestimable value will be to another a trial and a tribulation.

Fortunately we all differ for if all were alike and had the same sense of values, it would be a very difficult and different world. However, the true, the essentials of life do not differ, only that which is of no true consequence and is of the earth plane. The spiritual values do not change. It is only in self and the reaches of the mind where sometimes we find the light of truth has only penetrated the surface. 

We reap exactly what we sow. How could it be otherwise? We cannot let ourselves become lax and let in undesirable events and act only with the self and self-interest in mind. If and when this is done, the consequences are just. We pay the piper always for our lack of proper interest in spiritual values and putting material welfare in the forefront. We all have responsibilities and they must be faced squarely and met with resolution and carried out before greater gifts are given to us.

As the Scottish [poet Robert Burns has] so aptly put it, “Oh wad some power the giftie gie us to see oursel’s as others see us!”  We do not, or we might be astonished and dismayed or, as the case may be, we also might be pleasantly surprised. Well, this is as it should be for if we could see ourselves in the light of truth, we might indeed be dismayed at our lack of understanding.  

We must try harder to let in greater light and put self and self-interests in the background where they belong, accepting responsibility and going forward in the light.

 

Life, Liberty and Happiness

Be alert to your own inherent rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and make your life reflect the good that these three essentials represent.

 

When we are born into the earth existence, we have a birthright -- our birthright to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” as it was so aptly phrased by one of the great leaders of the past. Yes, we have this inherent right, but often it is not fully recognized or at all utilized to the full extent of its meaning.  

We so involve ourselves in the lives of others that we often enslave the self and do not allow it the full expression, so we arehandicapped to the degree that we allow ourselves to be.

We must recognize not only the rights of others for these very things but the fact that we too must give ourselves the full opportunity for expressing our life in the way we truly desire our life to be manifested. 

We are conscious that we are (that we live in a material world) but how free are we? How much happiness do we feel we have? What pursuits are we after?

If we are fettered, it is our own doing. If we feel responsible for all we meet, it will be accepted as so, but it is not necessarily true. If we see all about us only discord, dissension and fear, we express our life that way and attract more of the same.  

Be alert to your own inherent rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and make your life reflect the good that these three essentials represent.

 

On being Indiscreet

Life can be so uncomplicated if only we can eliminate the unnecessary from our menus and from our lives.

 

The payment for our indiscretions is rapid and sure and of such nature as should discourage further acts of the same kind, but, strangely enough, it does not always suffice. 

When we overeat or use alcoholic beverages or smoke to excess or any other form of over-indulgence, Nature takes care to show us that we must not put too great a load upon her. We become nauseous, filled with gas, bloated, et cetera. Our sewage system, wonderful as it is, is overtaxed and so we suffer.

If we cannot overcome the self-indulgent practices that bring about such distress, then we must be willing, indeed we must expect, to suffer the consequences. No matter in what department of life this occurs, its result is always the same. When we eat the natural pure foods, not those loaded with fats and artificial sweetness, then we keep in good health, our minds work better and we are better able to cope with whatever comes along.

Our purpose in eating is not only pleasure and gratifying our appetites, but also to supply our bodies with the necessary building blocks to repair and keep in good condition the temple in which we live our earthly lives. This is not difficult unless we make it so. Our needs are not great, but so much of artificial food stimulants and appetizers are used, it is utterly impossible to escape from the effects of such eating and drinking. Think before you fill your stomach with an over-abundance of heavy rich foods -- foods never necessary, but clogging in their effects on the body functions. 

Illness is often invited by such tactics, so we must be careful and use discretion in all we do, and we will find the simple pleasures are really the best. Life can be so uncomplicated if only we can eliminate the unnecessary from our menus and from our lives.

 

Self-Indulgence

 

First we must desire only the best for ourselves, and  then we must put on an armor of protection and be invincible.

 

Self-indulgence is one of the evils of life, and one that often goes unrecognized. We desire some particular thing whether or not it is good for us. Instinctively we know that it is not good for us, so do we leave it alone? No, we do not -- we allow ourselves to indulge in it. It may be some particular food of which we are fond but we know is not good for us. Perhaps, for example, we are fond of chocolate in any form, but it often gives us trouble. Does this lesson sink in and stay our hand when we next encounter the temptation? No, we somehow feel that circumstances may be a bit different the next time, and so we try again and so on.

We always pay for our folly, but we still go on and repeat the silly performance over and over again, expecting somehow that we may change, or, rather, not really caring as long as we can indulge in this one particular desire. 

What happens [is that] each time makes it easier to be self-indulgent for we do not really want to be free from the affliction or we would exert greater caution when tempted -- greater power of mind over the matter that causes the desire to rear itself. Then we would substitute that with another one that we know would be beneficial and would leave us feeling well, not ill.

First we must desire only the best for ourselves, and then we must put on an armor of protection and be invincible. Do not give in. Be strong and know it is all for your own best interests. Once you do this, the next time becomes easy until at last it becomes a natural thing to do. You realize then what a weakling you were to give in and then suffer the consequences.  

Push all this inconsequential desire aside and realize you and you alone know what you can take without untoward result and eliminate all that which only indulges the self, but is not necessary to the body for good health.

Punctuality

If we were all continually tardy what a chaos would result, both in the Spiritual and in the material world.

 

It is important to be punctual, to be on time for appointments and, if at all possible, to keep them. Of course, there are always extenuating circumstances that should be taken into consideration. Many times, through no fault of our own, we find it impossible to keep to a fixed schedule and so an appointment must be skipped. Withal, it is true that unless the circumstance be unavoidable, we should keep to our schedule or as nearly so as we can.

If we were all continually tardy what a chaos would result, both in the Spiritual and in the material world. Suppose the sun were erratic and found it could not rise in the east some morning. Just imagine, if you can, the result. Suppose the tide did not turn as expected because the influence of the moon upon the earth was off time. What then could we expect? This, I know, is a bit of an exaggeration, but it serves the point to show you what we mean. You can see why it is important to all concerned to be as timely as possible in all appointments and thus avoid disappointment and even disaster.  

Knowledge does not come to those who fail in this very important quality, indeed it cannot, for dependability is not there. So a word to the wise should be sufficient, and if unavoidable circumstances intervene, the mental can and should make contact and change the time and arrange another appointment to keep in touch.

Perceiving Truth

Truth has many facets and is not always clear to us.

 

Do not accept everything that you read or hear as gospel truth. Weigh it always in the light of your own reason. If it finds acceptance there then you may find it has truth in it, although even then it may not be complete. In other words there may be more to the statement than is given which would clarify it further and make the final picture a bit different from our interpretation.

Truth has many facets and is not always clear to us. In [actuality,] it is seldom given to us in its entirety. We strive to put truth together as we do a puzzle and often times there are important pieces missing, or at least they are missing to our view, and so we cannot weigh truth in the light of our own reason and knowledge and be sure that it is the final and conclusive truth. 

However, what we do receive and carefully weigh and accept we may be sure, for the time being, is sufficient for our present and all that is needed for us to know. This is more important than at first perceived, so we should carefully peruse our present knowledge and carefully weigh all the evidence before we accept it as final. Even then it will appear differently to different people depending on their innate wisdom and their present knowlege and state of mind.   

Be still and know that the “I am” within will give to you your acceptance or denial of that which you perceive to be Truth.

Temptations

 

Why are we all such sheep?

 

Life is beset with temptations on every hand and it is a challenge to our inner strength to combat these temptations in life. Often we are tempted by our friends and family to eat more than is needed and too to eat things that are detrimental to our health. This is also true, of course, of drinking and of keeping late hours.  

Life really is a simple process of living, and we do not need the luxuries so many have become accustomed to having. Our appetites are whetted by false hunger for sweets and for stimulants that are really not good for us. 

Then too, there are other temptations along life’s pathway such as the temptation to ride everywhere instead of walking. We need the exercise of walking for our muscles. The oxygen is also necessary for our lungs -- to cleanse and to revitalize them, but we are always tempted to take the easy ways of living though they are often doing us a great deal of harm.

We are tempted too to buy things simply because someone else has them. We cannot be different, our lives must be in conformation to all other lives. The way of these times seems to be that all must be sheep and follow the leaders, not thinking as individuals, not expressing the true self within, but falling into the pattern of thought set by others and never daring to express an opinion that would upset the applecart, so to speak. 

Why are we all such sheep? Is it because we all tend to think alike? No, it is because we hold fear within. We enshrine fear because we fear that if we expressed our true thoughts we would be unpopular, we would be shunned by society as extremists and be thought queer. How much better it would be if we did this and then had the wonderful freedom of healthful peace within, and the knowledge that those who accept us then as friends are tried and true and themselves capable of greater things in life.
