We can overdo anything and to do it to excess is a very bad trait and one that must not be encouraged.
Over-indulgence is truly a sin. If we take within our bodies more rich food than we need, that is one form of overindulgence. If we live with material possessions over and above what is necessary and a large surplus of things is acquired just for the sake of luxury, et cetera, that too is overindulgence.
We can overdo anything and to do it to excess is a very bad trait and one that must not be encouraged. Especially in eating is it bad because it causes stress on the bodily functions and throws them out of kilter. Then we are in trouble because everything must be utilized in some fashion and if toxic wastes are accumulated, we pay a stiff price for our indulgence of self.
If we are wise, we eat, not just for the sake of eating, but for the sake of building and rebuilding the body so that it can properly do its work. We must not cater to false appetites; the craving for sweets and rich foods eventually takes its toll in illness and we pay the piper, a high price for this form of indulgence.
Is it worth it? If given thought we find indeed that it is not worth it for not only do we become ill by this, but we accumulate excess poundage which causes the bodily functions twice the work.
It is like a contractor who is building a house with just so many men working for him. Finally, when things pile up, he must add men to do the work because he must get it done on time. So it is with the human body. We find our functions must be stepped up in order to get rid of the toxic poisons that have accumulated and must be disposed of.
Isn’t it wiser and better in every way to use care by eating and drinking only that which we truly need, never overtaxing our bodies and thereby also helping our minds to function better?
We all know the answer, the right answer to this question. The thing is, are we going to carry out these ideas or are we once again going to get on the treadmill of overindulgence?
