Happy Boxing Day

Boxer12_1

Yes, I know that Boxing Day has nothing to do with pugilism but it's a way of recycling an old gag cartoon.

A break in the action

Boxer12

That's it for now.
No kidding, I had planned all along to quit doing political stuff after the election. It used to be fun five years ago with Bill Clinton and Monica and Ken Starr. Now, with over 1,100 American kids killed in Iraq and so many more maimed, not to mention the death of 100,000 Iraquis, no cartoon of mine can convey the appropriate amount of sorrow, agony, anger and frustration that I feel.

Stay tuned for something different.

Lest we all forget what can happen

I just came across these magnificent drawings and think they should be seen by as many people as possible. Warning: the others are very graphic and disturbing.

The subject is the bombing of Hiroshima as drawn by eye witnesses.

Time Out!

Pg_hand

It's just about impossible to draw wearing this brace. However, until the arthritis eases up and the carpal tunnel syndrome subsides, the artwork willl continue to suffer. It's why I pulled the Dubya caricature. It was just embarassingly inept. I know, excuses, excuses. Let's see if the therapy and exercises help. Meanwhile, I'll try to wing it playing keyboard when I can. Thanks for your patience.

Tell us all the good things about cigarettes

Tobaccosuits

Philip Morris Lawyer Robert Heim as he appeared in a cartoon I did five years ago when he defended his client in a landmark case brought by victims of cigarette smoking. Times certainly have changed for those of us who grew up in a time when everyone smoked cigarettes, cigars and pipes. When I lived in California I used to tease those whom I saw furtively smoking outside a restaurant or office building. "Hey," I would say, "Pretty soon you'll have to go to Nevada for that." Louise Woodward and Defense Team

Louiselawyers_1

This was a big deal in Massachusetts six years ago. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld Louise Woodward's reduced conviction of involuntary manslaughter on June 16, 1998. The former au pair, who had been living in the United States pending the appeal decision, returned home to England where her parents managed to make their own headlines in an unfortunate way.

She defaulted in the wrongful death suit brought against her (a baby boy had died in her care) citing the inability to pay the legal costs required for a civil trial all the while maintaining her innocence. It didn't hurt her cause a bit by having Barry Sheck, the forensics expert who helped O.J. Simpson's defense team during his trial, to assist her team of Andrew Good and Harvey Silverglate (he's the beard) shown here with her.

Who are the people still investing in the stock market?

081298daybeach

12 August 1998. A day at the beach during a bad time in the market. What ever happened to the stock market? Who's keeping it going the way it is? Certainly not us. Contrary to decades past, I don't know anyone who speaks of the market, let alone investing in it. Perhaps the young man in the cartoon is an institutional investor.

Whatever happened to the strong dollar?

082898stats

082898 Our media made a lot of noise about how the Russian ruble had lost value that particular week, but nothing much was said -- or has been said lately -- about how our dollar has lost its value to stronger currencies.
