She was the first postwar Italian beauty to grace the silver screen and a welcome image after grim postwar (WWII) films such as Open City. The style owes a lot to the great French illustrator, Raymond Peynet, whose work was very popular in Europe.
It's difficult to believe, but it seemed that half the people in this country believed his lies. It took an old New England attorney, Joseph Welch, to cut him off at the knees.
