Alfred Stieglitz was born on New Year's Day, 1864, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He and his family moved to New York City in 1871, where he lived until his death on 13 July in 1946. He studied in Germany in Karlsruhe and the University of Berlin after earlier studies in the USA which included the College of the City of New York. He returned to New York in 1890.
