Photo from the collection of Todd McKie. Roy's son Todd, who is himself a noted painter, was kind enough to supply a scan for me. I have chosen this because it reminds me of Roy's youthful look and appearance which apparently had not changed in more than half a century. More about Todd and the remarkable McKie family, later on this page.
Roy is one of the original illustrators for Beginner Books, a Random House imprint founded by the famous Dr. Seuss [Ted Geisel] and Phyllis [Mrs. Bennet] Cerf.
Just a few of the many Beginner Books with illustrations by Roy McKie
Another very popular title. Published in 1982 by Workman Publishing, New York.
From Sail-ing, also with Henry Beard and published by Workman Publishing, New York, 1981.
Another photo of his famous father from Todd McKie's collection. Roy looking about as distinguished as any cartoonist has a right to be.
Roy's son Todd and Todd's wife, Judy Kensley McKie, are also artistic forces to be reckoned with, which you can discover by clicking on the hot links below.
