Michael Fay's Faces of War

100_1868

In the tradition of Kerr Eby and other great American combat artists, Michael Fay of the U.S. Marine Corps has brought to life -- as only artwork can -- the lives of our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq in his web log Fire and Ice. Here are some examples of his excellent work taken directly from his blog. Click on the images to enlarge them.

Paige Pooler - 2

Yes, I am now including the current work of talented illustrators among us, to document this end of the 100 year window.

Not only can we all relate to this illustration of the confined torture of today's air travel, but we are introduced to a self-portrait cartoon of Paige in the cabin of a United Air Lines flight to Ireland. The little guy in the seat next to her looks like me, only younger (though we've never met). It also happens to be a wonderful illustration. Click on image to enlarge.

Paige says this is her interpretation of a nice sunny day in San Francisco. Click on image to enlarge.

In these next two illustrations she has cleverly manipulated her illustrations over a photo background. Click on image to enlarge.

I couldn't resist this one. BTW, I don't care how hot it is -- I never swim in pools. Click on image to enlarge.

Introducing Paige Pooler - 1

It's time we brought the 100 Years of Illustration up to date. There is no one with a more enchanting style than Los Angeles-based Paige Pooler, whose very appealing style may be already known to you.
Her work continues in the same genre of other exceptionally talented young women of the mid 20th century such as Eveline Ness and Lorraine Fox. More about them at a later date.

Please, I beg you...

  • Please don't send me files and please don't tell me you have a print or a painting by one of these illustrators, or another, and ask me how much they are worth. Take the time to Google for information or seek an appraisal from a qualified art gallery.
