A Jessie Willcox Smith Madonna

Jws_s1202x

The title page of a special section devoted to the work of Jessie Willcox Smith in the December 1902 issue of Scribner's Monthly Magazine. This splendid work pays homage to the masterpieces in ceramic created by Andrea Della Robbia, who was born and died in Florence, Italy, 1435-1528. Click on the image to enlarge it. Sorry about the dingy color, four-color process printing was in its infancy in 1902.

I uncovered a round, framed picture by Jessie Willcox Smith; appears to be in pencil, mostly blue. The signature is printed around the base of the pic, "Jessie Willcox Smith". My father purchased it in Philadelphia in 1924. The framing bears the phrase,"The Famous LMC Picture & Mirror Frames, LM Castner Co., Williamsport, PA"

Thank you, Mariana for your kind comments-- a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too. I hope to keep posting more for you to enjoy.

I'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for all the beautiful images! :)
